Description: This volume contains new publications of Louis de Broglie's book The Theory of Measurement in Wave Mechanics. Translated by D. H. Delphenich (Gauthier-Villars, Paris 1957) and his 1929 Nobel lecture "The Wave Nature of the Electron." In The Theory of Measurement in Wave Mechanics, Louis de Broglie - one of the founding fathers of quantum mechanics - confronts a question that has never stopped mattering: what actually happens, physically, when a measurement is made on a quantum system? Writing in 1957, a few years after returning to the causal interpretation of wave mechanics he had first proposed in 1927, de Broglie sets that account side by side with the "usual" interpretation of von Neumann, London, and Bauer, chapter by chapter, testing each against the same hard case that Einstein posed at the 1927 Solvay Conference. The result is a rare document: a founder of the theory thinking carefully, in public, about what his own equations mean. This new edition typesets the book in full for the first time in LaTeX and restores all seven of de Broglie's original diagrams from the 1957 Gauthier-Villars edition, together with his 1929 Nobel lecture, "The Wave Nature of the Electron."
